TOKYO: Japan has proposed replacing 11 to 14 aging nuclear reactors by the 2050s, including 2 to 5 units by the 2040s.

The plan, presented on Friday, is aimed at securing future power supply amid rising electricity demand, especially from AI growth.

Japan is gradually reviving nuclear energy after the 2011 Fukushima disaster, though high costs and decommissioning challenges could affect implementation.
