WASHINGTON DC: Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets across major US cities on Saturday to oppose President Donald Trump’s policies, marking one of the largest coordinated demonstrations since his term began.
Massive turnouts were reported in New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles.
In New York, the heart of the protest was Times Square, where thousands packed the streets and subway entrances, waving placards reading “Democracy not Monarchy” and “The Constitution is not optional.”
Police estimated that more than 20,000 people marched down 7th Avenue, while across all five boroughs, the New York Police Department (NYPD) said total attendance exceeded 100,000.
Aerial footage showed Times Square teeming with protesters, while chants of “This is what democracy looks like” echoed between skyscrapers, accompanied by drumming, cowbells, and noisemakers.
Helicopters and drones hovered overhead as police maintained a visible but non-confrontational presence.
Organizers of the movement, known as “No Kings,” emphasized their commitment to peaceful demonstration, urging participants to de-escalate tensions and avoid any form of violence. “Non-violence is a core principle of our events,” the group’s website stated.
Ahead of the protests, Trump allies criticized the gatherings, alleging links to far-left Antifa activists and branding the movement as a “hate America rally.” However, Saturday’s demonstrations remained peaceful throughout, with no arrests reported by police.
The coast-to-coast rallies underscored a renewed wave of dissent against the administration’s policies, as citizens invoked constitutional values and democratic ideals at the heart of their protest.
