SONORA: An explosion and fire killed 23 people, including children, and injured 12 others at a Waldo’s discount store in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, on Saturday, November 1.

The incident, which occurred during the Day of the Dead holiday, has been deemed accidental by authorities, with the primary investigation focusing on a transformer malfunction inside the store.

Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo confirmed the casualties and ordered a transparent investigation.

The state attorney general reported that most victims died from toxic gas inhalation.

President Claudia Sheinbaum dispatched a federal support team to assist the affected families.
