KYIV: A Russian drone and missile attack on Ukraine’s capital early on Sunday killed at least two people and injured 13, according to local officials.
The strikes sparked dozens of fires and damaged several high-rise apartment buildings.
For the first time in the conflict, the seat of the government was hit, with its roof and upper floors sustaining damage.
The body of a one-year-old child was recovered from the rubble of a damaged building in the Darnytskyi district.
Drones and debris also caused fires in the Sviatoshynskyi district, and the attack knocked out power in parts of the city.
The latest assault marks an increase in Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, with authorities also reporting strikes on Kryvyi Rih, Kremenchuk, and Odesa.
Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched more than 800 drones and 13 missiles overnight.
