KATHMANDU: Laura Loomer, a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump and a right-wing activist, has strongly commented on the recent Gen Z protests in Nepal.

She claimed that the youth-led movement in Nepal was driven by corruption fueled by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Loomer also took aim at the U.S. Ambassador to Nepal in her social media post.

On social media, she wrote, “After the youth revolt against USAID-inspired corruption, Nepal’s government fell while U.S. Ambassador Dean Thompson—appointed by Biden but who serves under the Trump administration— is still in office.”

She further argued that corruption in Nepal has been increasing due to American taxpayer money.

She accused USAID of spending millions of dollars to “build democracy” in Nepal, which, according to her, ultimately benefited the Nepali elite.

She wrote, “The youth movement that exposed the murky pit of corruption funded by U.S. taxpayer dollars toppled the Nepal government in September 2025. Millions of dollars spent by USAID for democracy-building programs ended up in the pockets of Nepal’s elite, leaving these institutions hollow and sparking revolutionary sparks.”

Loomer also criticized the U.S. Ambassador to Nepal.

She wrote, “Joe Biden appointed Dean Thompson as U.S. Ambassador to Nepal in 2022. As Nepal faced a crisis, Ambassador Thompson remained entrenched in the old corruption of the Biden era, which the people of Nepal had revolted against.”

She added that Thompson was ideologically unsuited to the Trump administration.

Loomer claimed that during his tenure, Thompson has been advocating for a “paralanguage agenda” in Nepal and regularly used official ambassadorial and embassy social media accounts to promote LGBTQ rights.
