WASHINGTON DC: US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled a new peace plan for Gaza, urging Hamas to accept the terms.

The plan calls for an immediate halt to military operations. Hamas would release 20 living Israeli hostages and the remains of more than two dozen believed dead within 72 hours, in exchange for the release of hundreds of detained Gazans.

According to a Palestinian source, Hamas has been handed a 20-point White House proposal. It stipulates Hamas will have no role in governing Gaza, while leaving the possibility open for an eventual Palestinian state.

At a White House news conference, Trump described the initiative as “a historic day for peace,” but stressed that Israel would have full US backing to “finish the job of destroying Hamas” if the group rejects the deal.

Netanyahu reiterated that Israel “will finish the job” should Hamas refuse the plan or fail to comply. The Palestinian Authority praised the US president’s “sincere and determined” approach.

In a statement via WAFA news agency, it pledged to work with the US, regional states, and partners to end the war, ensure humanitarian aid to Gaza, and secure the release of hostages and prisoners.
