WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will deploy an additional 5,000 troops to Poland, a week after the Pentagon cancelled a planned deployment of 4,000 troops.

Trump said on Truth Social that the move was linked to Washington’s ties with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, whom he backed during last year’s election.

The White House has recently indicated plans to reduce overall US troop levels in Europe under Trump’s “America First” agenda.

Earlier this month, Washington also announced the withdrawal of 5,000 troops from Germany following tensions between Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over Iran.

It remains unclear whether the troops being sent to Poland are part of the Germany withdrawal or a separate deployment.
