DOHA: The US military has reportedly struck and sunk an Iranian vessel in the Gulf of Oman, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
CENTCOM said that the Jamaran-class corvette is “currently sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman at a Chah Bahar pier,” referring to a location in southern Iran.
The strike occurred at the start of the US military’s operation against Iran, described by CENTCOM as a coordinated response targeting Iranian military infrastructure.
A CENTCOM spokesperson said the situation remains “fluid and operational,” and additional details were withheld.
The incident comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, with both sides engaging in a series of military maneuvers and statements in the region.
