Seven Climbers, Including Five Foreigners, Killed in Avalanche Near Yalung Ri Base Camp in Dolakha

Seven climbers, including five foreigners and two Nepalis, were killed after an avalanche struck near the base camp of Yalung Ri Mountain in Rolwaling, Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9, Dolakha, on Monday morning. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Kumar Mahato, a team of 15 — comprising foreign climbers and Nepali guides — was hit by the avalanche around 9 a.m. while heading toward Yalung Ri, part of the Gaurishankar and Rolwaling mountain range.

Government Promotes 5 SSPs to DIG

The government has promoted five Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) officers to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) posts, filling four current vacancies and one that will arise in three days. The promotions were announced by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Monday. The officers promoted are Bhupendra Khatri, Sanuram Bhattarai, Om Adhikari, Shekhar Khanal, and Abi Narayan Kafle, who were recommended for promotion on October 26. UML Urges Former Leaders to Return, No Permission Needed: Pokharel

CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has called on leaders who left the party to return, saying no prior permission is needed. Speaking at a Press Chautari Nepal event in Kathmandu on Monday, he emphasized that those seeking to return must respect the party’s policies and leadership, and should not come with intentions to create disputes or divisions. “Regarding those who separated from UML, the Central Committee has already decided: returning to your home doesn’t require anyone’s permission,” Pokharel said.

Over 7,000 Dengue Cases Confirmed Across 75 Districts, Six Deaths Reported

More than 7,000 people have been diagnosed with dengue fever across 75 districts of Nepal, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD). Data from the EDCD show that 7,075 dengue infections have been confirmed so far, with six reported deaths. Only two districts — Dolpa and Manang — have reported no dengue cases to date. Bagmati Province has the highest number of infections with 1,763 cases, followed by Gandaki (1,775), Lumbini (1,169), Koshi (993), Sudurpaschim (788), Karnali (500), and Madhesh (147).

Top Leaders of Maoist Centre and Unified Socialist Hold Talks on Party Unification

Three senior leaders from the CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist) — Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and Madhav Kumar Nepal — have held discussions in Kathmandu to advance their planned party unification. Police Headquarters Directs Officers Deployed During Gen Z Protests Not to Leave Kathmandu Valley

The Nepal Police Headquarters has instructed officers who were in charge during the Gen Z protests of September 8–9 not to leave the Kathmandu Valley. The directive comes as the probe commission investigating the incidents may summon them for statements at any time. In a letter sent to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, the headquarters stated that officers deployed in the most affected areas must be made available for questioning when required.

Five Highways Remain Blocked Due to Floods and Landslides

Five major highways across the country remain obstructed due to floods and landslides, according to Nepal Police. Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire said that five highways are completely blocked, while two highways are operating on a single lane because of the continuous rainfall. The blocked routes include the Koshi Highway at Bhotkhola in Sankhuwasabha, the Mechi Highway in Ilam, the Nepal–China connecting road in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality of Rasuwa, the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa, and the Jomsom–Korala section in Mustang. Similarly, the Koshi Lokmarg at Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality–6 of Dhankuta has been opened for one-way traffic after being obstructed by floods and landslides, police said.

South Korean Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on Finance Minister Khanal

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal, Park Tae-Young, paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal. Home Minister Inspects President’s Residence Damaged During Gen Z Protest

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal visited the private residence of President Ram Chandra Poudel in Boharatar today. During the Gen Z protest on September 9, the President’s residence in Boharatar was subjected to vandalism and arson. Minister Aryal assured the President’s family that the damaged property would be repaired, following discussions with them. The inspection was attended by Chief District Officer Ishwar Raj Poudel of Kathmandu District Administration Office, Armed Police Force Chief Raju Aryal, and other officials.

Nursing Association Gives 48-Hour Ultimatum to Address Nurses’ Demands

The Nursing Association of Nepal has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the government to address the demands of nurses, including salary adjustments and other benefits. In a statement released on Sunday, the association warned that if their demands are not met within 48 hours, all nursing services—except emergency care—will be halted across the country. The statement declared, “If our demands are not addressed within 48 hours, we will completely suspend all nursing services, except emergency ones, in government, private, non-governmental, medical colleges, and health institutions nationwide.”

Nepali Congress Signatories Discuss Special Convention with Shekhar Koirala

A group that collected signatures from 54% of the general convention delegates demanding a special general convention of the Nepali Congress has met with party leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala. After submitting the signatures amid ongoing debates in the party’s central committee, the group, led by Gururaj Ghimire, requested a schedule for either the 15th general convention within the current four-year term or an alternative special convention, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reported. During the discussion, leader Koirala stated that conducting central committee elections with timely policy formulation through either a regular or special convention is the only viable path.

CIAA Files Corruption Case Against Forest Officer Shrestha

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a charge sheet at the Special Court in Kathmandu against former Ilam Division Forest Officer and current Bhojpur officer Dan Bahadur Shrestha, accusing him of amassing property disproportionate to his legal income. According to the CIAA, between July 10, 1991, and February 28, 2024, Shrestha accumulated unexplained property worth Rs 14.3 million, exceeding his verified income and family expenses. The investigation found that his reported earnings from salary, allowances, land sales, interest, shares, and agriculture were far less than the assets he owned.

Gopal Kirati to Merge His Party into Maoist Centre

Amid ongoing political uncertainty, the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the Deshbhakta Samajwadi Morcha have reached an agreement on party unification and leftist consolidation. The agreement was made public after Maoist Centre Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Deshbhakta Samajwadi Morcha Chairperson Gopal Kirati signed a political document pledging to unite patriotic, socialist, and revolutionary forces under the leadership of the Maoist Centre.

NEPSE Index Falls 8.24 Points to 2,622.89

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index recorded a slight drop today, falling by 8.24 points to settle at 2,622.89. A total of 333 companies saw 12,185,388 shares traded across 54,892 transactions, amounting to a total turnover of Rs 6.05 billion, NEPSE reported. Among sectoral indices, Development Banks rose by 1.11%, Hotels and Tourism by 0.01%, Manufacturing and Processing by 0.25%, Mutual Funds by 0.29%, Trading by 0.93%, and Other Sectors by 0.42%.

Revenue Collection Reaches 88% of Target from mid-September to mid-October
According to the Ministry of Finance, the revenue collection target from mid-September to mid-October was Rs 100.03 billion, of which Rs 91.51 billion was collected. This means 88% of the monthly target was achieved. Prior to the protests, the government had collected only 68% of the target from mid-July to mid-August and 77% from mid-August to mid-October.  Officials noted that even though customs offices were burned and people’s lives were disrupted during the Gen Z movement, revenue collection remained positive.

Increase in Labor Permits for Foreign Employment
In the first three months of the current fiscal year, the number of labor permits issued for foreign employment has increased. According to the Department of Foreign Employment, 210,516 people obtained labor permits and went abroad for employment in the first three months of the fiscal year 2025/26. In the same period of fiscal year 2024/25, 170,603 people had gone abroad for employment with permits. This indicates an increase of 39,913 people in labor permit holders this year.

Agriculture Suffers Major Losses Due to Rain and Floods
This year, heavy rains and landslides have caused significant damage to agriculture. During the monsoon, irregular rainfall in early October damaged crops. Additionally, rainfall in Kartik during the harvest season affected ripe paddy crops. Although the full extent of the losses has not been officially recorded, it is estimated to be around Rs 5 billion. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development reported that losses from mid-September to mid-October alone amounted to approximately Rs 3.50 billion. Preliminary data shows losses in three provinces totaling R 3.55 billion.

Most Urban Development Ministry Projects Stalled
Most projects prioritized by the Ministry of Urban Development have been stalled. The government withheld budgets for 2,100 small-scale projects totaling Rs 61.76 billion, ranging from Rs 100,000 to Rs 30 million, citing inadequate preparation and exclusion from the Project Bank. Most of the stalled projects were originally on the ministry’s priority list for the current fiscal year. According to a ministry official, “The projects prioritized in the current fiscal year but lacking preparation, not included in the Project Bank, and added from higher authorities are the ones currently stalled.”

Anmol KC’s ‘Jerry on Top’ Crosses Rs. 10 Crore at Nepalese Box Office

Anmol KC-starrer Jerry on Top has successfully grossed over Rs. 100 million nationwide. According to the Box Office report released Monday by the Film Development Board, the movie earned Rs. 10,51,48,000 in its first 16 days of release, selling 3,33,000 tickets across the country. Directed by Suyog Gurung, the film tells a story of Himalayan mountaineering and features Anmol KC alongside Aanchal Sharma, Jasita Gurung, Kedar Ghimire, and Bhuvan KC in lead roles.

Release of ‘Abhimanyu: Chapter 1’ Delayed Again

The release of Abhimanyu: Chapter 1 has been postponed once more. Initially scheduled for public screening on September 12, the film was pushed to November 7 due to disruptions caused by the Gen Z movement, continuous rainfall, and associated damages in various locations. However, the film will not be released even on the rescheduled date. Ongoing discussions with theaters to finalize a release date are underway.

Sagarmatha Club Wins 2nd Nepalgunj Swimming Championship

20 Killed in Bus-Truck Collision in India’s Telangana

At least 20 people were killed and several others injured when a passenger bus collided head-on with a gravel-laden truck on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway early Monday morning. The crash occurred near Rangareddy district, about 60 km from Hyderabad. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus, carrying around 70 passengers from Tandur in Vikarabad district to Hyderabad, was hit by the truck loaded with construction gravel. The impact caused the gravel to spill into the bus, burying passengers under the debris.

At Least 20 Dead After Magnitude-6.3 Earthquake Hits Afghanistan

At least 20 people have died after an earthquake struck northern Afghanistan, local authorities say, with the toll expected to rise as rescue efforts continue. Hundreds have also been left injured. The earthquake struck near Mazar-e-Sharif, one of the country’s largest cities that is home to about 500,000 people, at around 01:00 local time on Monday, (20:30 GMT on Sunday). It had a magnitude of 6.3 and a depth of 28km (17 miles), according to the US Geological Survey, and was marked at the orange alert level, which indicates “significant casualties” are likely.

Israeli Air Strikes Hit Southern Gaza, Death Toll Rises

Israeli air strikes have been reported from Khan Younis in southern Gaza, raising the death toll in the besieged enclave to 236 since the ceasefire was agreed. Meanwhile, two Palestinians, including a teenager, were killed in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank. In Gaza City, Hamas handed over the bodies of three more captives following a “complex search operation.” Since October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has claimed at least 68,858 lives and injured 170,664 people, according to reports.

Trump Says Maduro’s Days “are numbered”

US President Donald Trump has downplayed the likelihood of a war between the United States and Venezuela but suggested that Nicolás Maduro’s days as president may be numbered. When asked by CBS’ 60 Minutes if the US was going to war against Venezuela, Trump replied, “I doubt it. I don’t think so. But they’ve been treating us very badly.” His comments come as the US continues to launch strikes on alleged drug-smuggling boats in the Caribbean, which the Trump administration says are necessary to stem the flow of narcotics into the United States.
