UML to Hold 11th General Convention in Pokhara From December 13–15 

The CPN (UML) has decided to hold its 11th general convention in Pokhara from December 13–15. According to Party Publicity Department Chief Rajendra Gautam, the decision was made by the 10th full meeting of the central committee. During the meeting, Party Chair KP Sharma Oli presented a political report along with the proposed date for the convention.

PM Karki Meets Ambassadors, Emphasizes Good Governance

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that the recent Gen Z movement presented significant challenges and stressed that the government must now be fully dedicated to meeting the legitimate aspirations of the people. She made the remarks during a meeting with diplomatic mission officials and ambassadors at Singha Durbar on Friday. “There is no place for inaction anymore; we must recommit ourselves to fulfilling the people’s legitimate aspirations,” Prime Minister Karki said.

Government Announces Decisions of Cabinet Meeting

The government has made public the decisions of its Cabinet meeting. Government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, held a press conference on Friday to announce the decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting held on October 16. The government made a total of 20 decisions, including recalling resident ambassadors from 11 countries. The Cabinet also approved accepting USD 10 million in grant assistance from the Multidonor Trust Fund managed by the World Bank for the Public Financial Management Project.

UML Leaders Urge Oli to Step Down Amid Party Turmoil

Amid deepening internal rifts, leaders of the CPN (UML) have openly called for leadership transition, urging party chair KP Sharma Oli to hand over responsibilities and pave the way for new leadership. Speaking at the party’s 10th Central Committee meeting in Lalitpur, central committee member and former lawmaker Thakur Gaire said the current political and organizational situation demands a “leadership handover” to address growing challenges. Echoing similar sentiments, central member Usha Kiran Timsena sharply criticized what she called the “destructive ambition of one individual,” urging the party not to let Oli’s personal interests derail the UML’s future.

Pradip Paudel Proposes Generational and Structural Reform in Nepali Congress

During the ongoing central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress in Sanepa, central committee member and immediate past Health Minister Pradeep Paudel proposed reforms for generational and structural transformation in the party. He emphasized that the recent Gen Z revolt should not be viewed with suspicion but addressed for its core issues—corruption, governance, economic development, and youth employment. Paudel suggested increasing youth participation in party leadership and forming a “Digital Youth Congress” to integrate new-generation talent from ward to central levels.

KMC Executive Meeting Sees Heated Debate

Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s 43rd executive meeting on Friday turned lively as multiple issues — from the reconstruction of the fire-damaged Singh Durbar to the construction of KMC’s own office building — sparked intense discussion. Ward No. 3 Chair Prem Thapa proposed that the metropolis take responsibility for rebuilding the historic Singh Durbar, which was destroyed during the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9. Expressing sorrow, Thapa said, “Singh Durbar is our pride. Watching it burn helplessly was painful. KMC should lead its reconstruction.” Amid the debate, Ward No. 11 Chair Ramesh Tandukar pressed for immediate action to build a permanent KMC office, saying the lack of one had made even executive meetings difficult.

Yogesh Bhattarai Suggests Options for UML Chair Oli’s Exit

CPN (UML) Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has advised party Chairman KP Sharma Oli to hand over leadership smoothly, calling it a key aspect of party reorganization.  Speaking at the 10th Central Committee meeting, Bhattarai said that while party rules and past conventions indicated Oli could continue as chairman in the 11th general convention, extraordinary circumstances in the country and public expectations require reconsideration.  He suggested two options: immediately appoint the senior-most leader as acting head and elect new leadership at the upcoming convention, or hold the convention under Oli’s leadership with a prior announcement of leadership transfer and election of new leaders.

Gen Z Activist Miraj Dhungana to Form New Political Party

Gen Z activist Miraj Dhungana has announced plans to launch a new political party. On Friday, Dhungana posted a video on social media stating that he intends to start a party through the “Garikhana Deu” (Let us make a living in peace). He said the Gen Z movement has brought new opportunities to the country, creating the need for a political party. However, he emphasized that the party will not participate in elections under the current conditions.

Supreme Court Issues Interim Order Blocking Registration of Janaswaraj Party

The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order preventing the Election Commission from implementing its decision to split the Janamat Party, led by Dr. CK Raut, and register the Janaswaraj Party. The bench, headed by Justice Til Prasad Shrestha, on Friday issued the interim order, directing that the Election Commission’s decision not be executed. The Election Commission had decided on October 14, 2025 to register the Janaswaraj Party. Dr. Raut had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging this decision.

Home Minister Aryal Calls for Modernization of Nepal Police

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has emphasized the need to modernize the Nepal Police to keep pace with evolving challenges in crime investigation and technological advancements. He made the remarks during the “70th Police Day and Tribute to Fallen Police Officers” ceremony. Aryal noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs has the primary responsibility to provide sufficient resources to the Nepal Police to strengthen internal security. He assured that the government is vigilant to ensure resource availability for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Nepal Army Rescues 61 VIPs During Gen Z Protests

During the explosive phase of the Gen Z protests on September 9, the Nepal Army rescued 61 VIPs, including political leaders, by helicopter. In a press conference held in Kathmandu on Friday, the army stated that the rescue operation covered government residences, including the Ministerial Residence in Bhainsepati, the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, and the President’s office at Sheetal Niwas. The operation successfully evacuated 61 distinguished individuals along with their family members.

NEB Publishes Results of Grade 11 Partial and Grade Improvement Exams

The National Examination Board (NEB) has published the results of the old partial and grade improvement examinations for Grade 11. The results were made public on Friday. According to the board, out of 9,934 students who took the old partial exams, 5,916 have passed. Similarly, among 4,976 students who appeared for the grade improvement exams, 3,540 have passed. In total, 13,910 students participated in both examinations, of which 9,456 students passed. The board also stated that the results of two students have been canceled.

PM Karki Expresses Grief Over the Demise of Everest Expedition Member Kanchha Sherpa

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Kanchha Sherpa, a member of the first successful Mount Everest expedition team.  Sherpa passed away on Thursday at the age of 92 at his residence in Kapan, Kathmandu. Extending heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family, Prime Minister Karki said that the nation has lost not only an eyewitness to a historic ascent but also a living heritage.

Commercial Bank Deposit Rates Decline in Mid-October to Mid-November

Interest rates of commercial banks have fallen further for the period from mid-October to mid-November. The average maximum interest on individual fixed deposits dropped by 0.263 percentage points, falling from 5.4635% in mid-September to mid-October to 5.2005% in the current period. The highest rate continues to be 6%, offered by Global IME Bank and Himalayan Bank. Among 20 banks, 14 reduced their rates while six kept them unchanged.

Finance Minister Suggests Simplifying ADB Project Guidelines

Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal suggested simplifying the implementation standards and guidelines of projects to Masato Kanda, President of the Asian Development Bank. The suggestion came during a meeting in Washington, D.C., while attending the annual meetings of the World Bank and IMF. Delays in advance claim payments by Nepal Reinsurance affected insured parties. The interim government had decided to provide up to 50% advance payments on insurance claims for properties damaged during the movement, and insured parties expected timely payments accordingly.

Industries Begin Paying Arrears on Premium Electricity Charges

Industries consuming electricity through dedicated and trunk lines have started paying arrears of premium charges to Nepal Electricity Authority. Currently, Samrat Cement, Rolpa Cement, and New Nepal Plastic Industries have made payments. These industries had previously used installment facilities to clear arrears but had stopped since May after partially paying.

Hydropower Projects Halted Due to Government Delay

Construction of two domestically funded hydropower projects has been halted for three months due to government delays. The Supreme Court had ordered the Ministry of Forests and Environment to create procedures for constructing hydropower projects in national parks and conservation areas. The ministry instructed the National Parks Department, but procedures remain incomplete. Consequently, construction of the Tamakoshi-5 project and the 20 MW Rolwaling Diversion under Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower has been blocked by conservation areas.

Jerry on Top, based on an Everest expedition and a love story during the climb, premiered today, highlighting Nepal’s natural beauty and tourist destinations. Director Dinesh Raut’s film Prakash has been released on YouTube. The movie is now available on the official YouTube channel of OSR Digital. Shot in Jumla, the film tells the story of a young man’s struggle to become a teacher. It had performed well at the domestic box office and received positive reviews from critics upon its initial release. ANFA Appeals to FIFA to Overturn 2–0 Loss to Malaysia

The All-Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has lodged an official complaint with FIFA, seeking to overturn Nepal’s 2–0 defeat against Malaysia in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. ANFA has alleged that Malaysia fielded ineligible players during the match. At the center of the controversy is Hector Hevel, who scored a goal on March 25 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium. FIFA later ruled that Hevel was an ineligible player. ANFA spokesperson Suresh Shah told Nepal News, “If there is a violation of the rules, the competition regulations allow us to automatically claim the points.”

Government Approves Master Plan for International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur

The government has approved a master plan to build an international-standard cricket stadium at Tribhuvan University (TU) campus in Kirtipur. Manikumar Lama Signs with Bhutan’s Top Club Paro FC

Nepal’s national football team midfielder Manikumar Lama is set to play for Bhutan’s top club, Paro FC. The club has signed him for the upcoming AFC Challenge League. Palestinians Still Desperate for Aid as Rafah Opening Delayed

Trump, Putin to Meet in Budapest For Ukraine Talks

United States President Donald Trump has announced that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to meet in Budapest within the next two weeks for talks focused on ending the war in Ukraine. Trump made the announcement on social media on Thursday, saying the decision followed a “lengthy and productive” phone conversation between the two leaders. Speaking later at a press conference, Trump said senior officials from both sides would meet next week to lay the groundwork for the summit.
