Prachanda Briefs on Party Unity Efforts
CPN (Maoist Centre) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” briefed the party’s Secretariat meeting on Monday about ongoing initiatives for party unity with Netra Bikram Chand “Biplav”-led Communist Party of Nepal, the CPN (Unified Socialist), and Mahindra Raya Yadav-led Nepal Samajwadi Party. The meeting, held at the party’s central office in Paris Danda, focused on party unity and polarization. Prachanda noted, however, that only Yadav’s party is currently prepared for a merger.
Monsoon Retreat Advances Across Provinces
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported that the monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and Lumbini provinces. It also stated that the western region of Gandaki Province began experiencing monsoon withdrawal from October 6. Two Girls Missing in Rautahat Floods
In Rautahat, two girls went missing after being swept away by floodwaters in a farm. The daughters of local residents from Karkach Tole, Devaahi Gonaahi Municipality–6, disappeared around 2:15 pm on Sunday while playing near a waterlogged area, according to Rautahat Police.
12 Trekking Tourists Rescued in Gosainkunda
In Gosainkunda, Rasuwa, the Nepal Army has rescued 12 trekking tourists. According to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information, Nepal Army, the trekkers were rescued from Gosainkunda–5 and brought to Syafrubensi. A team from Shreenath Battalion had been deployed for their search and rescue. The directorate further stated that four other missing individuals are being searched at five different locations.
Government Transfers Seven Joint Secretaries
The government has transferred seven Joint Secretaries. The Cabinet meeting on September 28 decided on the transfers, which were officially published on Monday by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration. According to the ministry, Rudra Singh Tamang has been transferred from Federal Affairs to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, while Shambhu Prasad Marasini moves from Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies.
NEPSE Remains Closed Despite Holiday Withdrawal
The stock market did not open today. Although the Ministry of Home Affairs withdrew the public holiday for Monday, the stock market still remained closed. “After the holiday was announced, all employees had already gone out. Even though the office reopened, the market could not be opened today,” said a NEPSE official. Due to Dashain holidays, the Nepal Stock Exchange index had been closed since last Monday.
Nearly 74% of Protest Insurance Claims Related to Vehicle Damage
Of the insurance claims filed for damages during the September 8–9 protests, 73.92% were for motor vehicle insurance. By Dashain, insurance companies had received a total of 2,988 claims worth Rs 23.39 billion. Among them, 2,209 claims were related to vehicles, amounting to Rs 3.65 billion. Assessment of the claims shows that a large number of vehicles were damaged during the protests. Stakeholders also say that more vehicles were damaged than the number of claims filed.
Nepal’s Airline Sector Shrinks to 9 Active Carriers
In the past two decades, around 50 airlines were registered in Nepal, but only nine remain active in regular flights. Among them, Saurya Airlines and Guna Airlines have ceased operations, while Nepal Airlines is left with just two Twin Otters for domestic flights. Even the national carrier struggles to operate flights on schedule due to constant technical problems with its aircraft, often managing only one regular flight. Everest Insurance Accelerates Compensation for Gen Z Protest Damages
Himalayan Everest Insurance Limited announced that it has accelerated the insurance claim settlement process for properties damaged during the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9. According to the company, out of the 287 claims submitted so far, 245 claims have already been settled, with a total payout of Rs 217,445,831. The company stated that the remaining claims are also being processed with high priority.
Government Orders Immediate Relief for Flood and Landslide Victims
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has directed that families of those who lost their lives due to floods and landslides be immediately provided Rs 200,000 each as relief.
