Youth Wing of UML Files Complaint Against Balen for Offensive Facebook Posts
The National Youth Association Nepal, affiliated with the CPN (UML), has filed a complaint at the Cyber Bureau against Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah. The complaint was registered on Thursday by the union’s Vice-Chair, Maharaj Gurung. According to the complaint, Mayor Sah allegedly used his personal Facebook account, ‘Balen,’ to post offensive remarks targeting foreign countries, political parties, and public officials, thereby disturbing public peace and social harmony. The complaint claims that certain words in Shah’s posts were objectionable and that he spread messages undermining social cohesion.
Gen Z’s Sacrifice Turned Tyranny into Ashes: Biplav
Netra Bikram Chand “Biplav,” General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), stated that the sacrifices of the Gen Z generation reduced the increasingly autocratic government to ashes. Addressing a demonstration in Kathmandu demanding an all-party interim government, Biplav said that the Gen Z activists gave their lives to challenge the authoritarian power. He said, “Those who sacrificed in the Gen Z movement left behind qualities that Nepal will never forget. The state power was blind, deaf, and becoming tyrannical against the people. Gen Z, through their blood and sacrifice, crushed the arrogance of corrupt politicians and parliament, reducing it to ashes in the fire.”
Arjun Narsingh KC Warns NC Leadership Cannot Stay Without Holding Convention
At the ongoing Central Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress, senior leader Arjun Narsingh KC submitted a 15-point written proposal urging the party to hold a regular or special convention without delay. KC highlighted that even short preparation is sufficient, recalling that the party’s 11th general convention was successfully held with just 40 days of preparation. He warned that the current Central Working Committee’s term has expired, stressing the committee has a legal duty to address the collective demand of 54 percent of members for a special convention. “On what basis does this elected committee continue to function? It must clarify that it remains in office only until the next convention,” KC said.

Leader of the Gen Z movement, Sudan Gurung, has questioned Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal over why Mahesh Basnet was not arrested, while Dr. Nicholous Bhusal was taken into custody for similar statements. Gurung asked whether the government is selectively targeting individuals and suggested that the administration has tilted in favor of the powerful, continuing in the style of the previous Oli government. He wrote on Facebook, “Home Minister, what difference do you see between the statements of Nicholous Bhusal and Mahesh Basnet? Why was only Nicholous arrested? Has the government shifted to avoid touching the powerful, following the path of the Oli government? This statement was made out of frustration after repeated questioning in a closed room. It seems the movement is losing momentum.”
Corruption Case Filed Against Former Dharan Tax Officer
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court against former Dharan tax officer Tilak Ale and Santosh Kumar Basnet, Managing Director of Swaminarayan Nirman Seva Pvt. Ltd. The CIAA alleges that the company failed to deposit Rs 12.37 million in VAT for a 2020 sand and gravel contract with Sundarharaicha Municipality and submitted falsified documents to evade payment. Ale and Basnet are accused of colluding to mislead the municipality. The anti-corruption body has demanded a fine equivalent to the evaded VAT.
Over 12,000 Domestic Tourists Visit Annapurna I Base Camp in Two Months
More than 12,000 domestic tourists visited the Annapurna I Base Camp in Narchyang, Annapurna Rural Municipality–4 of Myagdi, over the past two months. The area saw a significant rise in internal tourism from mid-September to early November. According to tourism entrepreneur Tej Gurung, who operates a hotel along the Maurice Herzog Trail in Humkhola, between 200 and 500 visitors arrived daily during this period. He said the Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath holidays brought an all-time record number of tourists to the Annapurna Base Camp.
EPS Workers Protest Delay in Sending to South Korea
A protest has erupted over delays in sending workers to South Korea under the Employment Permit System (EPS), despite passing language and skill tests. Workers who passed the EPS language and skill exams two years ago have still not been deployed. On Thursday, they surrounded the EPS Korea branch under the Department of Foreign Employment in Gwarko, Lalitpur, demanding immediate action. For 2025, out of 163,000 participants in the EPS exam, 17,030 candidates successfully passed the language test.
Two Nepali Tourists Rescued from Snow in Chharka, Mustang-Dolpa Border
Two Nepali tourists trapped in snow at Chharka on the Mustang-Dolpa border were safely rescued this morning by helicopter. The operation was coordinated by the Mustang District Administration Office with assistance from the Nepali Army’s Indra Box Battalion and carried out using an Air Dynasty helicopter. The rescued tourists, Manish GC from Parbat and Santosh Kunwar from Myagdi, had been stuck at the Mustang-Dolpa border due to heavy snowfall. Mustang Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Bhusal confirmed that the army coordinated the rescue after receiving information about the tourists’ situation.
NEPSE Falls by 11.29 Points Amid Rs 5.42 Billion Turnover
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) declined by 11.29 points on Thursday. The total share trading amounted to nearly Rs 5.42 billion. Among the traded companies, 165 saw a decline in share prices, 77 companies experienced a rise, while the share prices of 9 companies remained unchanged. Among Thursday’s trades, sellers of Darmakhola Hydro Energy earned the highest profits, whereas sellers of Sampada Laghubitta Financial Institution incurred the largest losses.
ADB Loan of Rs 28.39 Billion for Municipal Development Fund Stalled
Following the dissolution of the House of Representatives after the Gen Z movement, the Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s proposed loan assistance for the Municipal Development Fund has been stalled. Although the Ministry of Urban Development had made the necessary policy arrangements to receive the loan, the absence of a functioning House has left the loan assistance in limbo, as the arrangements cannot be legally validated. ADB had proposed $200 million (approx. Rs 28.39 billion) under a policy-based loan (with conditional policy adjustments) to support economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.
NTA Forms Valuation Committee for Smart Telecom Assets
About two and a half years after taking control of Smart Telecom, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has formed a ‘Valuation Committee’. The five-member committee is coordinated by Chartered Accountant Rajesh Parajuli. The committee was formed under the Telecommunications Service Provider Asset Management Regulations, 2022, to determine the value of assets belonging to service providers whose licenses are not renewed.
Simkot Airport Expansion Delayed Due to Pending DPR Approval
The expansion and land acquisition work for Simkot Airport has stalled. Although the budget for this fiscal year has been allocated and a detailed project report (DPR) prepared, the work cannot move forward because the DPR has not yet been approved. According to Tek Kumar Regmi, Chief District Officer and Chair of the Land Acquisition Committee, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) had prepared the DPR, but without its approval, the necessary expansion work is facing delays.
DPR for 220 kV Chamelia–Jouljibi Cross-Border Transmission Line Prepared
The detailed project report (DPR) for the 220 kV Chamelia–Jouljibi cross-border transmission line has been completed. During the 12th Joint Director-Level Committee meeting held in New Delhi on February 12, 2025, Nepal and India agreed to move forward with the construction of the project. Following this agreement, both countries have prepared the DPR for their respective sections of the transmission line. The DPR was presented at the Nepal–India Joint Technical Team meeting held in Pokhara. Both sides have agreed to prepare a joint DPR within the next month.
Jerry on Top Becomes Highest-Grossing Nepali Film of the Year
Actor Anmol KC’s film “Jerry on Top” has become the highest-grossing Nepali movie of 2025, earning Rs 114.30 million in gross collection as of Wednesday, according to producer Saroj Neupane. Typhoon Kalmaegi Claims 114 Lives in Philippines, Hundreds Missing
The central Philippines is grappling with one of the deadliest typhoons this year, as authorities report that flooding caused by Typhoon Kalmaegi has claimed at least 114 lives. Cebu, the most populous island in the region, bore the brunt of the storm, with 71 confirmed deaths, 127 people still missing, and 82 injured, officials said. Cebu provincial authorities have additionally reported 28 fatalities not included in the national civil defence figures.
