PM Talks With Gen Z Group in Presence of President

Prime Minister Sushila Karki held a meeting with the Gen Z group in the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel. The discussion took place at the President’s residence, Sheetal Niwas. Attendees included Madan Karki, Monika Nirola, Bhojbikram Thapa, Shiva Yadav, Urpajun Chamling, Nikunja Bhandari, Rijan Rana, Bablu Gupta, Ojaswiraj Thapa, Purushottam Yadav, Aditya Acharya, Khemraj Saud, Apsana Banu, Pradeep Pandey, Gunjan Shah Thakuri, and Dhiraj Joshi.

Government Recalls Ambassadors From 11 Countries

The interim government led by Sushila Karki has decided to recall Nepali ambassadors from 11 countries. Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel informed on Thursday that the decision targets ambassadors appointed during the tenure of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. According to Kharel, the ambassadors to China, Germany, Israel, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan have been asked to return.

PM Karki Vows Swift Action to Resolve Cooperative Fraud Cases

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has taken a strong initiative to address the problems faced by victims of cooperative scams. On Thursday, she convened a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, bringing together Cooperative Minister Anil Sinha, Ministry Secretary Kedar Nath Sharma, PMO Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha, officials from the Crisis Management Committee, Cooperative Regulation Authority, and representatives of the National Federation of Cooperative Victims. During the meeting, PM Karki emphasized that those who defraud cooperatives must not be allowed to escape justice.

Madhesh Province Government Takes Shape: Chief Minister and Two Ministers Sworn In

Jitendra Prasad Sonal has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, taking the oath of office and secrecy in Bhojpuri language before Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari at the Provincial Chief’s Office in Janakpurdham. Sonal, a provincial assembly member of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) Nepal, was appointed with the support of 56 assembly members from five parties under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution. Following his appointment, two newly designated ministers—Mahesh Prasad Yadav of the Janmat Party and Kanis Patel of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist)—were sworn in as ministers without portfolio in a separate ceremony at the same office.

PM Karki Orders Immediate Resolution of Nurses’ Protest

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has instructed authorities to immediately address the concerns of protesting nurses. She summoned Health Secretary Dr. Bikash Devkota on Thursday and directed him to resolve the issues without delay. Holding responsibility for the Ministry of Health as well, PM Karki emphasized understanding the nurses’ grievances, taking immediate action, and keeping the government informed of progress. She warned that failure to resolve the problem could increase the risk of skilled healthcare professionals leaving the country due to low pay.

Three Girls Drown in Jhapa

Three young girls drowned this afternoon while fishing in the Sisne River in Gauradaha Municipality-9, police reported. The deceased have been identified as Sushma (7) and Swikriti (9), daughters of Anju Magar, and Roshni (11), daughter of Nirmala Pariyar. According to the District Police Office, the girls drowned while attempting to catch fish. Police have reached the site, and further investigation is underway.

NC Leader Koirala Reiterates Holding 15th General Convention on Schedule

Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has reiterated that the party’s 15th general convention should be held as scheduled in the month of December, without any delay. Speaking at a recent central committee meeting, he asked why Congress cannot move forward when other political parties are already preparing for their conventions in the same month. “If other parties are conducting their conventions in December, there is no reason for us to delay. To give Congress a new direction and fresh prospects, we must hold our convention on schedule,” Koirala emphasized.

Two Killed in Motorcycle Collision in Arghakhanchi
Two people were killed and two others seriously injured in a motorcycle accident at Chhatradev Rural Municipality–1, Saurekhola, Arghakhanchi. According to the District Police Office, the collision occurred on Wednesday evening between two motorcycles. The deceased have been identified as Tara Belbase, 21, of Panini Rural Municipality–5, and Suman Sunar, 35, of Chhatrakot Rural Municipality–6, Gulmi. Both were riding the motorcycles involved.

EC Engages Political Parties on Upcoming House Polls

The Election Commission of Nepal has begun formal consultations with political parties as part of its preparations for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026. The discussion, chaired by Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, was held at the Commission’s office in Kathmandu today. The meeting included representatives from major political parties — Min Bishwakarma from the Nepali Congress, Guru Baral from CPN (UML), Dev Gurung from CPN (Maoist Centre), Hari Dhakal from Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Rajendra Pandey from CPN (Unified Socialist), among others.

PM Karki Stresses Courts Must Not Halt Services Even for a Day

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasized that judicial services cannot be stopped even for a single day. She made this statement during a joint meeting with the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Board of Directors and a delegation from the Supreme Court. The meeting was convened to discuss alternative arrangements after the Kathmandu District Court building was damaged. Supreme Court Chief Registrar Bimal Paudel requested the Civil Aviation Authority to make its Babarmahal building available for court use. In response, Prime Minister Karki instructed that judicial services must continue uninterrupted.

CIAA Files Corruption Case Against JSP Lawmaker Singh and 15 Others

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Madhesh Province Assembly member Saroj Kumar Singh of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and 15 others at the Special Court in Kathmandu. The charge sheet was submitted on Thursday, accusing the defendants of misusing funds from the Provincial Parliamentary Development Fund. The case names several individuals linked to local user committees involved in temple and infrastructure projects.

Home Minister Aryal Alleges Elements Trying to Disrupt Elections

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has accused certain elements of attempting to disrupt the upcoming elections. Speaking to journalists during a visit to the District Coordination Committee office in Bhaktapur, he said the government would first try to reason with those trying to disturb the electoral environment. “If some elements are trying to provoke unrest, we will, as much as possible, try to explain and counsel them,” Aryal said. He added that if persuasion fails, the government will take action in its own way to maintain order.

CK Raut Moves Supreme Court to Halt Janamat Party Split

Janamat Party Chairperson CK Raut has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding a halt to the party’s division. The writ was registered on Thursday, with its first hearing scheduled for Friday. In the petition, Raut has sought an interim order directing the Election Commission not to proceed with the application submitted for registering a new party. Earlier, a dissident faction within the Janamat Party had filed an application on Sunday seeking to register a new political party following an internal split.

Police Arrest 122 Escaped Prisoners Who Fled During Gen Z Protests

Nepal Police have arrested 122 escaped prisoners who fled from various jails across the country during the Gen Z protests on September 9. According to Kathmandu District Police Range, the arrests were made through coordinated operations by the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, Valley Crime Investigation Office, and other subordinate units. The detainees were captured from different locations in the Kathmandu Valley where they had been hiding following the jailbreak.

NEPSE Continues Downward Trend; Trading Hits Rs 3.27 Billion

The Nepali stock market extended its decline on Thursday, the last trading day of the week.  The NEPSE index fell by 18.40 points to close at 2,487.17. The Sensitive Index, tracking Class “A” companies, also dropped by 1.73 points to 435.29. Today, 311 companies traded 36,531 times, with a total of 7,643,635 shares changing hands, amounting to Rs 327,545,864. A total of 197 companies saw their share prices fall, 45 gained, and 9 remained unchanged.

Banks Accumulate Excess Loanable Funds

As the first quarter of the fiscal year nears its end, banks and financial institutions have accumulated nearly Rs 1.15 trillion in excess loanable funds. The amount of funds available for loans had increased at the start of the new fiscal year. With the expansive budget and monetary policy, credit flow was expected to increase, reducing the surplus, and initial signs of rising loan demand were visible.

Income Tax Share Declines in Nepal’s Revenue Mobilization

Nepal’s revenue mobilization shows a decline in income tax share, while indirect taxes have slightly increased. According to the Ministry of Finance, in FY 2024/25, the share of income tax in total revenue collection was 25.3%, down from 26.8% in 2023/24. The share of indirect taxes, which was 13.8% in 2023/24, rose to 14.9% in 2024/25. Last fiscal year, only 76.22% of the income tax target was collected, whereas indirect taxes reached 89.85%.

ADB Chairman and Finance Minister Khanal Meet

Asian Development Bank (ADB) Chairman Masato Kanda expressed concern over political changes in Nepal. During a meeting with Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal in the U.S. on Thursday, he inquired about political changes and governance. Finance Minister Khanal stated that the current government is committed to creating an investment-friendly environment for private sector development. He also praised ADB’s long-standing contribution to Nepal, particularly in infrastructure development.

Governor Poudel Highlights Economic Challenges from Political Changes

Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Prof. Dr. Bishwo Nath Poudel, stated that recent political developments have added challenges to maintaining financial stability and sustainable economic growth. At the SAARC Finance Governors’ meeting during the ongoing World Bank and IMF annual meeting in Washington DC, he noted that inflation and external sector indicators remain stable. He added that policy facilitation efforts are underway to revive and mobilize the economy amid the political challenges.

 

‘Lali Bazar’ Shooting Kicks Off in Bardiya

The shooting of the film ‘Lali Bazar’ has officially begun. The film held its auspicious ceremony on Wednesday in Rajapur, Bardiya, marking the start of production. Director Yam Thapa is leading the project. The film, scheduled for 35 days of shooting, stars actress Swastima Khadka in the lead role. It is being produced by Shatkona Arts, the production house known for the popular ‘Jatra’ series. In addition to Thapa’s role as writer-director, Rabindra Singh Baniya and Max Dipesh Khatri are producers, while Pradeep Bhattarai serves as the executive producer.

Song from Sci-Fi Film ‘Eklo’ Released

The song ‘Eklai Bachnu Khuru Khuru’ from the science-fiction-based film ‘Eklo’ has been released. Actress Kabita Nepali is featured in the song, which highlights her performance and costume. The song is composed in line with the film’s storyline and features vocals by Shantishree Pariyar, lyrics by Swapnil Sharma, and music by Rohit Shakya. The production team believes the song will generate additional buzz for the film. ‘Eklo’ has also made its international presence at the Cannes Film Festival through a stall. Kathmandu Horror Film Festival Announces Selected Films and Jury

The Kathmandu Horror Film Festival, organized by the Nepal Film and Cultural Academy, has announced its selected films and jury panel. The festival will run from October 31 to November 2 at the Russian Culture Center, Kampokhari, coinciding with Halloween celebrations. The festival, being held for the first time in Nepal, will showcase films based on folklore, myths, horror, and mystery. National Football Team Returns After AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers

The Nepal national football team, which had traveled to Vietnam to participate in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, has returned home on Thursday. The team played two-leg matches against Vietnam but lost both games, resulting in elimination from the tournament. US Maintains Optimism on Gaza Ceasefire Despite Hamas Request for More Time

Senior US officials have downplayed concerns over the Gaza ceasefire after Hamas requested additional time to locate the remaining bodies of Israeli hostages. Under the first phase of the Gaza peace plan, Hamas was obligated to return 20 living hostages and the bodies of 28 others. Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to stop buying Russian oil, as the United States seeks to exert economic pressure on Moscow in its efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Pakistan and Taliban Agree on Temporary Ceasefire After Border Clashes

Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government have announced a temporary 48-hour ceasefire following fresh border clashes and reported Pakistani air strikes on Kabul and Kandahar. Both sides claimed that the other had requested the truce. Pakistan stated that the ceasefire took effect at 13:00 GMT on Wednesday. Earlier, a Taliban spokesperson reported that 12 civilians had been killed and more than 100 wounded due to Pakistani fire. Both Pakistan and the Taliban claimed that the other side had suffered heavy casualties, though none of the deaths have been independently verified.
