PM Oli Meets Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held bilateral talks with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng today at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. Earlier in the day, Oli arrived in the Chinese capital by train after completing his engagements in Tianjin, according to his private secretariat. He traveled to Beijing following his address to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, where he also held meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several other heads of state and government.
SC Full Bench to Hear Petition Challenging PM Oli’s Government Legitimacy
The Supreme Court has decided to fast-track a petition questioning the legality of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government and will now conduct a full hearing. A bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Srikanta Paudel ordered the case be prioritized following arguments by lawyer Yagyamani Neupane, who contended that the government had become illegal and urged the court to issue an interim order. The court has directed the submission of key documents, including party support letters submitted to the President on July 12, parliamentary whip details from July 22, and records of parties supporting the prime minister.
Dr. Govinda KC Ends Hunger Strike After Three Days
Dr. Govinda KC, who began a hunger strike three days ago demanding reforms in medical education, has ended his fast. The protest took place at the planned Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences in Geta, Kailali. Dr. KC broke his fast at 2 PM on Tuesday by drinking juice offered by 52-year-old Pritim Chaudhary from Kanchanpur, after experiencing health issues. Previously known for undertaking indefinite hunger strikes, Dr. KC had announced this as his 23rd strike, setting a three-day duration for the protest in Geta.
Nepal Rolls Out Tourist Tracking System and Hikes Everest Climbing Fees
Nepal has introduced two major changes in its tourism sector: a new electronic tracking system for foreign visitors and revised climbing fees for Mount Everest. The Department of Immigration will enforce an electronic registration and monitoring system for foreign tourists starting September 17. New climbing fees, effective September under the Mountaineering Regulations issued earlier this year, require foreign climbers to pay $15,000 and Nepali climbers Rs 150,000 to scale Everest via the Southeast Ridge in the spring season.
National Assembly Panel Finalizes Mandatory Retirement Age for Govt Employees
The Legislative Management Committee of the National Assembly has finalized provisions regarding the mandatory retirement of civil servants, in line with the approval by the House of Representatives. In a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, the committee discussed the Federal Civil Service Bill and reached consensus on previously unresolved provisions related to mandatory retirement, planning to implement them in three phases.
Nepal Teachers’ Federation Protests School Education Bill at RSP Headquarters
Expressing dissatisfaction with the School Education Bill, the Nepal Teachers’ Federation (NTF) staged a sit-in at the office of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on Tuesday. The teachers submitted a memorandum to draw attention to the government’s failure to fully address prior agreements and their concerns under the bill. Receiving the memorandum, RSP General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti said the government must listen to the legitimate demands of teachers and assured that the party would raise these issues in Parliament.
UML Calls Secretariat Meeting Ahead of Statute Convention
The ruling party CPN-UML has convened a secretariat meeting in preparation for the statute general convention scheduled for September 5-7, according to Party’s Publicity Department Chief Rajendra Gautam. The meeting is set to take place on September 4 at 3 PM at the party’s central office in Chyasal. Discussions will focus on the political report by Chairman KP Sharma Oli, the statute amendment report by Vice-Chairman Bishnu Paudel, and the organizational report by General Secretary Shankar Pokharel. Earlier, a convened central committee meeting had been postponed, and it will no longer be held.
Two Men Missing After Motorcycle Accident Found Dead in Rasuwa
Two youths who had gone missing after a motorcycle accident were found dead in a stream at Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-6, Sole, Rasuwa district. One body is being recovered using rope-rescue methods, while locals reported spotting the other body in the same stream. The victims were identified as 24-year-old Sudip Ghale of Thade, Gosainkunda-6, and 23-year-old Dawa Dendup Tamang.
Karnali Highway Reopens After Four-Day Landslide Blockage
The Karnali Highway, blocked by a landslide in Gaganekhola, Shubha Kalika rural Municipality–1, Kalikot on Saturday, partially reopened for one-way traffic on Tuesday afternoon. According to Police Inspector Bir Bahadur Sunar, Information Officer at Kalikot District Police Office, the Nepal Army used blasting to break rocks carried by the landslide on Monday, allowing the road to reopen on Tuesday. Authorities warned that continued rainfall may cause further blockages.
SC Seeks Written Response from Maoist Leader Shrestha in Contempt Case
The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered CPN (Maoist Centre) senior vice chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha to submit a written response in a contempt of court case. A division bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Shreekant Paudel issued the order. The case stems from a petition filed by Ayush Dahal, a law student from Morang district, who accused Shrestha of making a Facebook post on August 22 that allegedly amounted to contempt of court.
Japanese Encephalitis Claims 23 Lives Since January in Nepal
At least 23 people have died from Japanese Encephalitis (JE) since January, according to data from the Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services. The division reported 113 confirmed infections during the same period. So far, the disease has been detected in 36 districts. Lumbini Province has reported the highest number of cases at 37, followed by Bagmati (18), Koshi (17), Gandaki (16), Sudurpaschim (9), and Karnali (2).
NEPSE Falls 19.89 Points, Shares Worth Rs 4.44 Billion Traded Today
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropped by 19.89 points on the third trading day of the week, closing at 2,741.97. On this day, shares worth Rs 4.4382 billion were traded. The market saw a predominance of declining stocks. Out of the companies traded today, 29 companies’ share prices increased, while 221 companies’ prices fell. No company’s share price remained unchanged. Himstar Energy was the top gainer in the market, with its share price rising by 9.98%. Shares of Global IME Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, and other financial instruments also recorded notable gains.
NRB Introduces Framework to Regulate Systemically Important Payment Systems
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has launched a framework to identify and specially regulate systemically important payment systems. Such systems are critical to the country’s financial stability, as any disruption could pose challenges to the entire payment infrastructure. The framework sets six criteria for identifying important payment systems. Meeting even one criterion qualifies a system for special regulation and supervision.
Government to Issue Rs 10 Billion Development Bond
The government will issue Rs 10 billion worth of development bonds.
The Public Debt Management Office will issue the nine-year Development Bond on Thursday. For this, the office has called on buyers to submit bids. Banks, financial institutions, non-banking financial institutions, insurance companies, and Nepali citizens can participate, according to the office. Participation can be done through the office’s website.
Finance Minister Paudel Meets World Bank VP Zutt to Discuss Economic Growth, Infrastructure
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel met with Johannes Zutt, Vice President for South Asia Region at the World Bank, for a courtesy meeting. The meeting at the Ministry of Finance today focused on Nepal’s overall economy, urban and physical infrastructure, investment, tourism, and environmental issues. Minister Paudel highlighted that, compared to last year, key economic indicators have shown significant improvement, reflecting reforms in policy, institutional structure, and implementation processes.
Industrial Investment in Nepal Sees Encouraging Growth
Nepal’s industrial sector has seen encouraging investment recently, signaling positive prospects for economic growth and job creation. In the past year (from mid-July 2024 to mid-July 2025), 11 industries with capital exceeding Rs 5 billion were registered. Industries with more than Rs 500 million in investment and costs are categorized as large industries. Among the few industries with investment over Rs 5 billion, 11 were registered in just the past year.
Filming Begins for Nepali Movie ‘Kumari’
Filming for the Nepali movie ‘Kumari’ has officially begun. On Tuesday, a ceremonial “Shubha Muhurta” (auspicious start) was held at Banglamukhi Temple in Lalitpur to mark the commencement of shooting. Directed by Dinesh Raut, ‘Kumari’ has started filming in Patan, Lalitpur, with a shooting schedule set for 35 days. The movie features performances by Abhishek Khadka, Akriti Rajbhandari, Ghanshyam Joshi, Sunita Shrestha, Akanksha Karki, Madhu Khadka, Sanam Shrestha, Saku Shah, Saroj Lamichhane, Manisha Sharma, and Bhoopi Luhar.
Government Launches Health Insurance Program for Film Industry Workers
The government has introduced a health insurance program for film industry professionals. Operated through the Film Development Board under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the initiative aims to directly benefit actors, creators, and technical personnel involved in the film sector. Under the program, film workers with a special category identity card will be eligible for up to Rs 150,000 per year for medical treatment expenses, while those with a standard film worker identity card can receive up to Rs 75,000 annually.

Singer and actor Yash Kumar has released the music video for his new song ‘Halka Halka.’ During the event, a screening of the “musical film” was also organized, with film director Tulsi Ghimire attending as the chief guest. Under the direction of Arjun Ghimire ‘Pande’, the song ‘Dhanya Dhanya Lokeshwar’ has been recorded for the upcoming film ‘Jharipachi Ko Indreni.’ The song, featuring voices of well-known Newari singers Rozman Maharjan and Ratna Shobha Maharjan, follows their popular hits ‘Aila Lubaya’ and ‘Saalagu Gacha,’ adding a fresh flavor to Nepali devotional music. Cricket Team Returns Home After Top End T20 Series in Australia
The Nepali national cricket team returned home on Tuesday after participating in the Top End T20 series and several practice matches in Australia. Officials from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) welcomed the team at Tribhuvan International Airport. In the 11-team Top End T20 series, Nepal was eliminated in the group stage. Following the series, the team played five practice matches. Nepal faced Australia’s local Capital Territory (CT) in two T20 practice matches, winning both games.
Nepal U-23 National Team Ready for AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers
The Nepali U-23 national football team is all set for the AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers, which begin in Tajikistan on Wednesday, according to head coach Nabin Neupane. Landslide Kills At Least 1,000 in Sudan’s Darfur Region
A massive landslide in Sudan’s western Darfur region has killed at least 1,000 people after flattening a mountain village, a rebel group controlling the area said Monday. The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army said the disaster struck Tarasin village in the Marra mountains on Sunday following days of heavy rainfall. Only one person is reported to have survived. The group appealed to the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations for urgent assistance in recovering bodies trapped under the rubble.
Israel Starves 13 More Palestinians to Death, Kills 40 Since Dawn
Gaza’s Health Ministry records 13 deaths, including three children, “due to starvation and malnutrition over the past 24 hours”, bringing the total number of hunger-related deaths to 361, 130 of them children. At least 40 Palestinians, including several aid seekers, have been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza since dawn. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot has announced Belgium will recognise the Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly later this month, and is imposing sanctions on Israel.
Putin Hails ‘Unprecedented’ Ties with China at Talks in Beijing
Russian leader Vladimir Putin said his ties with Chinese President Xi Jinping are at an “unprecedented level” as the two met in Beijing on the eve of a massive military parade. Putin described Xi as a dear friend; Chinese state media said relations were exemplary. Russia is to increase supplies of gas to China, while Beijing will offer visa-free travel to Russians during a year-long trial. Xi is also preparing to welcome North Korea’s Kim Jong Un in what appears to be a show of solidarity with both aggressors in the Ukraine war.
Trump Says India Offered to Remove Tariffs on US Goods
US President Donald Trump says India has offered to cut its tariffs “to nothing” even as he called the current trade stalemate with the country “a totally one-sided disaster”. US tariffs of 50% on goods from India – which includes 25% penalty for Delhi’s refusal to stop buying oil from Russia – took effect last week. India has not responded to Trump’s latest comment but such war of words over Russian oil has caused Delhi-Washington ties to hit an all-time low.
