Voices demanding that Rabi Lamichhane, who is currently in Nakkhu Jail over a cooperative scam, step down as president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have emerged. On Tuesday, during a central committee meeting, a proposal was made that Lamichhane should resign as chairman until the legal proceedings related to the cooperative scam are concluded. At the meeting held at the party’s central office, provincial chiefs proposed that Lamichhane should step aside until the cases are resolved.
Election Commission Officials Discuss Poll Preparations with PM Karki
Prime Minister Sushila Karki held discussions today with officials of the Election Commission regarding preparations for the upcoming elections. CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has decided not to immediately convene a party committee meeting. Durga Prasai Announces Indefinite Protest for Restoration of Hindu Nation
Durga Prasai, coordinator of the ‘National Campaign to Save Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens,’ has announced an indefinite protest demanding the restoration of Nepal as a Hindu nation. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Prasai expressed dissatisfaction with the interim government formed after the Gen Z movement and declared that protests would begin immediately after Chhath festival. He alleged that the Gen-Z movement had been hijacked by “suit-wearing ministers from Barbara and Samata Foundation.”
Suspended UML Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi Returns to Jail
Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, suspended secretary of Communist Party of Nepal (UML), has returned to prison. Following the Gen Z protests on September 9, Rayamajhi had escaped from Sundhara Jail along with other inmates. However, he voluntarily surrendered to the jail on Monday evening. Previously, Rayamajhi had been transferred within Sundhara Jail, and he has now been sent to Dilli Bazaar Jail. Rayamajhi is in custody pending investigation in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.
Tipper Operation Banned on BP and Araniko Highways During Dashain
Authorities have imposed a ban on tipper operations along the BP and Araniko highways throughout the Dashain festival period. According to Sudarshan Shrestha, Assistant Chief District Officer of Kavre, the decision was made to reduce traffic congestion, minimize potential accidents, and ensure smooth travel for the public during Nepal’s biggest festival. The Kavre District Administration Office issued a notice stating that tipper operations will be completely prohibited within the district from Ghatasthapana to Purnima.
Two Girls Drown in Pond in Saptari
Two young girls tragically drowned today in a pond in Hardiya, Surunga Municipality-2 in Saptari. The victims, aged seven and eleven, lost their lives while bathing in the pond. Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Basnet of the District Police Office confirmed the drowning incident and added that after locals reported it, the girls’ bodies were recovered from the pond with assistance from community members.
Stock Market Recovers Losses After Two Days of High Gains
After two days of strong gains, the stock market has recovered losses from the negative circuit. On the second trading day of the week, Tuesday, the NEPSE index rose by 58.63 points to reach 2,682.25 points. On Sunday, the stock market had gained 111.70 points, while last Thursday, the market fell by 160.33 points due to a negative circuit. Despite the rise in NEPSE, trading volume decreased. While more than Rs 9 billion worth of shares were traded on Sunday, today’s trading amounted to Rs 5.29 billion.
Financial System Deposits Reach Historic High
Deposits in the financial system have reached a record high, equivalent to 120 percent of Nepal’s GDP. This increase is attributed to recent economic slowdown and decreased overall demand. According to Nepal Rastra Bank, total deposits in banks and financial institutions reached Rs 7.323 trillion. The National Statistics Office reported that Nepal’s GDP at consumer prices at the end of the last fiscal year was Rs 6.107 trillion, making the financial system deposits 120 percent of GDP.
Foreign Investment Approval Jumps in Early Fiscal Year
In the first two months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, foreign investment approvals have shown significant improvement. According to the Department of Industry, foreign investment of Rs 33.09 billion was approved in first two months of current fiscal year, nearly three times higher than Rs 12 billion approved during the same period last year. Of this, Rs 1.36 billion came through automatic route and Rs 31.7238 billion through regular procedures.
Small Insurance Claims to Be Paid by Tihar
Birendra Baidwar, president of the Nepal Insurers Association, stated that small insurance claims will be settled by Tihar. Speaking at a discussion organized by NAFIJ on economic recovery needs, he said that the Jenji protests caused nearly Rs 80 billion in private sector losses, and small claim requests totaling Rs 22.25 billion received until September 22 will be paid by Tihar.

Renowned Dancer Sita Subedi Passes Away at 40
Famous dancer Sita Subedi passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 40. She had been suffering from lung cancer for three months and was on a ventilator for the past month. Her death occurred at 6:30 AM at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Subedi, originally from Chitwan, will have her funeral on Tuesday. She was known for performing with one leg, founding the Classic Nepal Foundation, and winning the gold medal in Intermediate-level Kathak.
