JHAPA: Chairman of the CPN-UML and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli has accused the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) of attempting to disrupt the election process after concluding that it would not win.

Speaking to journalists at Bhadrapur Airport while traveling to his constituency in Jhapa, Oli alleged that the RSP appears willing to allow elections only if the results favor it, and otherwise seeks to derail the process. Referring to developments over the past few days, he said these incidents suggest the party is attempting to sabotage the elections.

Stating that elections cannot be conducted through force, Oli emphasized that polls must be held within the framework of election laws, ensuring a clean, healthy, and peaceful competitive environment. He said voters must be able to cast their ballots freely and without fear.

Oli stressed that the electoral process and its outcome should be transparent, impartial, and peaceful. “However, the current election environment is not peaceful. There are attempts to incite unrest, and concerns have been raised from various sectors,” he said.

He further warned that although different groups may have their own interests, recent developments indicate a risk of continued conflict even after the elections. Oli said there have been calls to resolve the causes of conflict before proceeding with polls, adding that while the issues may have multiple dimensions, solutions are possible.

Criticizing political parties for failing to act responsibly, Oli referred to violent incidents that occurred on September 08 and 09, which he said should never have happened. He cited loss of life, arson, looting, vandalism, and widespread violence, including attacks on public property, government offices, industrial areas, party offices, and the homes of political leaders and cadres. He described these incidents as the emergence of an “extremely criminal mindset” within Nepali society.
