KATHMANDU: A total of 485 people trapped by the flood in Bhote Koshi have been rescued.
On the night of July 8, heavy flooding completely blocked the Syafrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road section. Security forces, including the Armed Police, created a temporary footpath to evacuate stranded locals.
By Thursday afternoon, the rescued were safely escorted to their destinations, informed Assistant Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force, Shailendra Thapa.
Two containers and one EV vehicle trapped in the customs yard were also relocated to safe areas.
The flood caused by a glacial lake outburst at Tibet’s Lhende River, merging into Bhote Koshi, has left 14 Nepalese, 6 Chinese citizens, and 3 security personnel missing.
Four bodies have been recovered so far, with five other human body parts found. Only one body has been identified; the rest are kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.
The flood damaged the Nepal-China border bridge in Rasuwagadhi Rural Municipality-2, Gosaikunda, Rasuwa district, blocking the road and disrupting electricity in the area.
