487 cooperatives inoperative in Koshi Province

JHAPA: As many as 487 cooperatives have been found inoperative in Koshi Province. Most of these cooperatives under the jurisdiction of the province government are from Jhapa, 131, while Morang has 67, Sunsari 62, Ilam 47, and Udayapur and Tehrathum 26 each.

The list of idle cooperatives goes further. Solukhumbu has 12 such institutions, Okhaldhunga and Panchthar 21 each, Sankhuwasabha 13, Khotang, Bhojpur and Dhankuta 17 each, and Taplejung 10.

The list was made public in line with the Province Cooperatives Act, 2076, and Cooperative Operation, Monitoring and Auditing Standard, 2078. The listing was aimed at updating the number of cooperatives and forwarding process to cancel the registration of the idle ones, according to the Koshi Province Cooperative Registrar and Training Office.

Once the cooperatives are found with no property and liability, they would be forwarded with the cancellation process, said monitoring and auditing officer, Nagendra Parajuli.

Currently, there are altogether 1,075 cooperatives under the jurisdiction of Koshi Province.
