BIRATNAGAR: Continuous rainfall has caused severe flooding in Biratnagar, forcing residents of at least 75 households to relocate to safer areas.
According to Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav, around 350 people from 75 homes in Biratnagar-12’s Sampanna settlement were moved to Bakhari, Daraiya Residential School, and a newly opened nearby industry building after floodwaters entered their houses.
In Biratnagar-2 (eastern side), floods from the Singhiya River have threatened about 35 homes, while in Biratnagar-5, Keshalia Dhat Shankar Bari settlement has also been inundated, with nearly 25 families requiring relocation.
Flooding from the Ratuwa River has entered 20 houses in Urlabari-9, forcing locals to seek shelter with neighbors.
Similarly, in Sunbarshi-3’s Bahun Tol, the Bakraha River breached its embankment by 4–5 meters, inundating around 60 homes.
Repair work has already begun in Sonbarshi-6 to strengthen the damaged embankment. In Miklajung-6, preventive measures have been initiated after the Nunshari River began eroding its embankment near Malamithara, putting nearby settlements at risk.
