KANCHANPUR: High alertness has been adopted in Kanchanpur after the outbreak of bird flu in the surrounding areas across the border, including in Uttarakhand in India.

Precaution with awareness has been adopted here in Kanchanpur district with the confirmation of the infection in the bordering areas.

The District Bird Flu Control Committee has stated that it is tightening the import and export of birds and bird products at the border, as well as conducting awareness programmes in the bordering municipalities.

The head of the District Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Center, Shyam Khadka, said an awareness campaign has been launched and vigilance has been adopted to prevent the spread of infections seen in the bordering areas in Nepal.

He informed that awareness programmes regarding bird flu control and prohibition have been conducted in Dodhara-Chandani, Belauri, Punarbas, Bhimdutta municipality, and Beldandi rural municipality, which are adjacent to the border with India.

“After confirmation of the bird flu infection in the Indian border areas, we are conducting awareness programmes towards Nepal. Due to low prices and open borders, supplies are easily available, which is why illegal imports have also been taking place, increasing the risk of infection in Nepal as well,” Khadka said.

He stated that awareness is necessary for timely control as all chickens raised in this area need to be culled if the infection spreads.
