KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that all languages spoken in Nepal are our asset and none should be allowed to go extinct.

Receiving study reports by the Language Commission at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Monday, she stressed that everyone concerned should play a positive role for language preservation.

On the occasion, a delegation of the Commission, led by Chair Dr Gopal Thakur, submitted a report on mother tongue education and a report on the implementation of the National Action Plan for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032) to Prime Minister Karki.

After receiving the report, Prime Minister Karki said there are 124 languages active in our country, and all of them are our property.

“However, some of these languages are on the verge of extinction, it should be avoided. Every language is equally important.”

She also lauded the role of such study and research to preserve and promote languages spoken in the country.
