KATHMANDU: Around 58 per cent of farmers across the country have been listed in the Farmer Registration Programme as of mid-November this year.

The agriculture census of 2021 puts the number of farmers across the country at approximately 4.1 million.

Sanjiv Pandit, Officer at the Agriculture, Information and Training Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, shared that more than 2.3 million farmers have been registered under the Programme as of now.

The Centre believes that by connecting farmers to the electronic information system under the Programme, it will be easier to provide farmers with facilities such as chemical fertilizer, seeds, grants and services management.

The farmers are listed and classified into four categories based on their income statues such as livelihood farmers, small scale farmers, medium scale farmers and large scale farmers, said Pandit.

Identity card will be distributed to those farmers listed in the programme and thereafter they will be provided grants and services, added Pandit.

According to him, the integrated statistic are being collected from including the details of the produce, the area of land cultivated and other related information.

The Centre has been providing necessary information to the farmers and enhancing capacity of the farmers, agriculture entrepreneurs and technicians among others.
