KATHMANDU: The annual report of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) for the fiscal year, 2024/25 has been submitted to President Ramchandra Paudel. At a program organized at Sheetal Niwas today, Attorney General Sabita Bhandari presented the annual report to President Paudel.
The report incorporates the activities carried out by the OAG and its subordinate bodies in the fiscal year, 2024/25.
Out of total cases, writ petitions and applications filed by public prosecutors, 75,165 disputes were settled. Of them, 66.34 percent were settled in favor of the government.
The OAG and its subordinate offices issued the order for mediation in 2,612 cases where 3,075 were defendants. Similarly, decisions were made not to submit cases against 4,841 persons implicated in various 4,527 cases.
Similarly, legal opinions were sought from the OAG and its subordinates on 52 issues in the past fiscal year, but suggestions were provided only on 47 issues.
The number of cases, petitions and applications in which the OAG and the offices under this had defended or argued in government’s favor was 127,409. Likewise, the number of cases in which the Government of Nepal was defendant stood at 105,036, while writ petitions filed against the government were 16,514 and other applications were 5,859. This is 3.90 percent less compared to the previous fiscal year.
The Attorney General is obliged to present the annual report of the OAG to the Head of State every year as per Article 159 (1) of the Constitution.
