DHANUSHA: Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav has urged the federal government to ensure that the House of Representatives election, scheduled for this March 5, is conducted in a peaceful environment.

At a one-day provincial-level security seminar held today in Janakpurdham, jointly organized by the Federal Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Home, Communications and Law of the Madhesh Province Government, he emphasized the need for mutual coordination and cooperation between the government and relevant stakeholders to conduct the elections in a peaceful environment.

Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that security should be the top priority as some escaped prisoners are still at large, creating an atmosphere of fear in society.

“Currently, demonstrations by some political parties are taking place, security agency infrastructures have been damaged, and stolen weapons have not yet been returned. Holding elections in such a situation is challenging; therefore, the federal government and the Home Administration need to establish separate mechanisms to create a peaceful environment,” he said.

The Chief Minister stated that the Madhesh Province government enacted the Police Act in 2018 (2075 BS), and the lack of police deployment according to this Act has made it difficult to effectively ensure law and order.

On the occasion, Madhesh Province’s Minister for Home, Communication, and Law, Fakira Mahato, expressed the view that coordination and cooperation among the three levels of government would make works easier in terms of maintaining law and order. He mentioned that there have been problems in peace and security-related works due to the lack of police deployment.

In the meeting, security committee officials from all eight districts of Madhesh Province are scheduled to have a detailed discussion on the district-wise security situation, existing challenges, and security strategies targeting the upcoming elections.

The meeting was attended by the Chiefs of all three security agencies, the officers of the Nepali Army, and senior government officials and employees including the Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha and Joint Secretary Ananda Kafle of the Federal Ministry of Home Affairs.

The security seminar is expected to make a significant contribution to strengthening the overall security system of the province and to conducting the upcoming elections safely and orderly.
