LALITPUR: In Lalitpur Metropolitan City–18, Bhaisepati, preliminary damage assessment has begun at the federal ministerial residences, as well as the provincial chief and chief minister residences, following arson during the Gen Z protests.
According to the Federal Secretariat, the damage report for the incident on September 9 is expected to be ready within a week.
Superintendent Engineer Chakrabarti Kanta of the Secretariat stated that the initial data collection has already started.
At Bhaisepati, 27 modern, fully equipped buildings constructed over an area of 96 ropani 10 aana—intended for federal ministers, National Assembly Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives—were completely burned.
The ministers had only moved into these residences in June, 2024.
Similarly, offices built over 27 ropani 12 aana for the provincial chiefs and chief ministers of all seven provinces were also set on fire.
Currently, the Nepal Army is providing security at the federal ministerial residences and provincial liaison offices in Bhaisepati.
Entry is allowed only to family members of the residents with identification cards.
The Federal Secretariat has stated that no cleaning or repair work will proceed until the damage assessment is completed.
