DHANGADI: In a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union, Kailali at Dhangadhi, Nepali Congress central committee member and Education Department chief Nain Singh Mahar sharply criticized the top leadership’s style in government and party management.
He condemned the formation of a “high-level political mechanism” by the ruling coalition that bypasses constitutional norms and the party’s limited leadership meetings that control decisions without broader participation.
Mahar said, “The practice of an unconstitutional mechanism directing the government and a limited committee running the entire party challenges both rule of law and internal democracy. This must stop.”
He highlighted that the central committee, the party’s supreme body, has not met for 10 months, leaving the party inactive and raising doubts about the upcoming general convention. Mahar expressed concern over unfair distribution of opportunities within the party, stating thousands of dedicated activists remain deprived of roles, weakening the party’s strength.
He emphasized that leaders’ character reflects governance quality, urging politicians to uphold ethical conduct and for the party to become ideologically strong. Noting the weak role of parliamentarians in implementing the constitution and people-centered laws, he called for greater accountability from lawmakers.
Mahar also stressed the need for prompt policy and legal frameworks to operationalize Dashrath Chand Medical University. As education chief, he proposed an ambitious plan to make Nepal a hub for international education by attracting foreign students through scholarships, aiming to build Nepal’s global soft power via returned graduates who become unpaid ambassadors worldwide.
