PARBAT: An eye treatment facility has been established at Bahaki Thati of Bihadi rural municipality-8 of Parbat district.
The remote rural municipality in the southern belt of district got the eye treatment facility with the technical support of Himalaya Eye Hospital, Pokhara.Chairperson of Bihadi rural municipality, Parvin Gurung, inaugurated the Centre on Friday.
Earlier, general services were only available at the Provincial Hospital in district. With the establishment of the Centre, the villagers could now avail eye treatment services in their own locality. Chairperson Gurung shared that the Centre was launched to provide reliable and quality healthcare services to the residents of southern region of the district.
Patients from adjacent Gulmi district can also benefit from the services besides those from Bihadi rural municipality and Paiyun rural municipality, he added. The Centre will examine eye patients, perform general surgeries, cataract surgeries, distribute medicine and eye glasses.
Earlier, those from Bihadi rural municipality were compelled to travel to Pokhara, Palpa or Butwal cities to get proper health services. “Now we are working on providing treatment for all type of diseases right here at Bihadi,” stated Gurung. He divulged that highest number of eye patients found in a health camp organized by the rural municipality led to the establishment of the Eye Treatment Centre.
Vice-Chairperson of Bihadi rural municipality, Mina Sharma, expressed her confidence that many citizens would benefit from the newly established Eye Treatment Centre.The Centre has put an end to compulsion for the local residents to travel afar to receive eye treatment services, she mentioned.
Local resident Maya Sharma Tiwari expressed her happiness that with the service available in their village, they no longer have to go outside the district for treatment.
In the past, the residents of Parbat district had to either wait for the free health camps or travel as far as Kathmandu for the treatment of complex eye issues or for cataract surgery in absence of a well-equipped eye treatment centre.
