KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah will return to Kathmandu from Pokhara today. Security at Tribhuvan Airport has been tightened as preparations are underway to welcome Shah.

Authorities have tightened security to prevent any rioting, illegal activities, or violations of social norms, according to police sources.

Former King Gyanendra, who has been visiting various districts of Gandaki Province for some time, is set to arrive in Kathmandu this afternoon. On this occasion, royalist parties are set to demonstrate their support for the king.

Only passengers with flight tickets and airport staff are allowed inside, and entry for others has been prohibited. The government has deployed uniformed and plainclothes intelligence teams at intersections in Kathmandu since this morning, in preparation for mobilizing all four security agencies if necessary.
