JHAPA: A two-day International Yam Festival is going to be organized in Bahundangi Bazaar of Mechinagar Municipality-4 on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti from January 14 to 15.
The festival is being organized by 14 government and non-government organizations and will see exhibition of traditional foods including yams from Nepal, India and Bhutan.
According to Arjun Karki, Ward Chairman of Mechinagar-4, who is also the chair of the organizing committee, , this is the fourth time that the Yam Festival is being organized in Bahundangi.
The organizers have stated that 18 types of traditional foods made from yams are to be exhibited at the festival. The festival is being organized with the participation of the Koshi Province Government and the Tourism Office Kakadbhitta with the support of UNDP, ICIMOD, WWF, and other NGOs.
Around 50,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which will also include musical performances by folk artists Daisy Baraili and Kamalikanta Bhetwal.
