KATHMANDU: Gen Z activists and student groups staged protests in several major cities across Nepal, including Biratnagar, Birgunj, Dang, Butwal, Hetauda, Narayangadh, and Surkhet, on Tuesday.
The demonstrations aimed to oppose the government’s social media restrictions, which the protesters say limit youth expression amid rising corruption.
The rallies saw participants shouting slogans, carrying banners, and expressing their frustration over governance issues.
In some areas, protesters threw water bottles and eggs toward local government offices and police, prompting authorities to intervene with controlled measures to maintain order.
In Surkhet’s Birendranagar, the capital of Karnali Province, protesters gathered in large numbers starting early morning, while similar gatherings were reported in other regional hubs.
Local officials deployed significant police forces in key locations to ensure the protests remained peaceful.
Organizers emphasized that the movement reflects nationwide youth sentiment demanding accountability, transparency, and the protection of digital rights.
According to observers, these demonstrations signal growing political awareness and activism among Nepal’s younger generation.
