KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall across Nepal has caused disruptions on several national highways and roads.

The Department of Roads released an update on the situation as of 11 AM on Sunday, detailing the condition of multiple roads.

According to spokesperson Prabhat Kumar Jha, the Mechi Corridor has been severely affected by floods and landslides.

The Maikhola Bridge has been completely washed away, while the Bailey bridges over Puwa Khola and Jogmai Khola have also been submerged.

Due to floods and landslides at nine locations, the BP Highway has been closed since Saturday.

The Kathmandu-Pharping-Bhaise-Hetauda road section (Kulekhani-Sisneri-Kathmandu) remains fully blocked due to landslides and river erosion.

Even though landslides on the Kulekhani-Fakhel-Kathmandu stretch have been cleared, the road surface remains fragile, and traffic is not allowed to prevent further damage.

On the East-West Highway, diversions near Bhalu Khola in Damak and Kali Khola in Mechinagar Municipality have been washed away by floods, causing road blockages.

The Tribhuvan Rajpath at Urleni Danda is blocked by landslides and is expected to reopen after 12 PM today.

Similarly, minor landslide clearance work is underway on the Kanti Lokpath road section, with traffic expected to resume after noon.

On the Araniko Highway, one-way traffic is operating in the Khawa section, while the Prithvi Highway’s Nagdhunga-Muglin stretch is also functioning one-way.

The Muglin-Narayangarh road at Tuin Khola has been cleared for two-way traffic, although a new bridge near Namsi Khola is blocked by fallen rocks; traffic is proceeding via the old bridge.

On the Mid-Hills Highway, the Khurkot-Ghurmi section near Aakhre Bhir in Ramechhap/Sindhuli remains blocked due to a major landslide, while the Baglung-Bhurtibang section is operating one-way.

In the Kalikagandaki Corridor, the Bhimad-Dedgaun section near Bhimad has a 10 km diversion, suitable for mini buses, microbuses, and jeeps, but not for cars and large buses.

The Dharan-Dhankuta and Hile-Pakhribas-Leguwa road sections are also blocked.

The Narayangadh-Butwal road at Daunne and the Siddhartha Highway have no disruptions, and the Kalikagandaki Corridor Dedgaun-Gaindakot/Narayangarh section is also clear.

The Postal Highway in Birgunj and Kamala has no damage, but the Lohendra Bridge in Morang is at risk of overflowing.

Jha added that the Department of Roads has deployed all necessary equipment to clear blocked roads and urged travelers to avoid non-essential trips or travel only after checking road conditions.
