NAWALPARASI: Continuous rainfall since Saturday night has brought traffic to a standstill along the Narayanghat–Butwal stretch of the East-West Highway.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhu Nepal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, said vehicles began to skid along the rain-soaked Daunne section, which is currently undergoing expansion, leading to a full roadblock.
Authorities have advised commuters to seek alternate routes, as the affected section remains fully obstructed. With road expansion already requiring overnight closures from 11 PM to 5 AM, the unanticipated rainfall has caused significant congestion along the route.
In a similar incident, Kanti Lokpath—a key route from Hetauda to Kathmandu—has been shut down following relentless overnight rain.
According to the Makawanpur District Police Office, floodwaters from the Bagmati River swept away a diversion at the border of Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-8 in Makawanpur and Bagmati Rural Municipality-2 in Lalitpur, halting all vehicular movement since 6 AM.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Aryal confirmed that police teams are working at the site to restore access. Until then, travelers heading to Kathmandu from Hetauda have been urged to use alternative roads.
