KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has begun across Madhesh Province due to a low-pressure weather system that has developed over the Bay of Bengal, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Data from the department show that Birgunj recorded the highest rainfall in the past six hours, measuring 59 millimeters. By 9:30 a.m., Kalaiya in Bara had received 52 millimeters of rain, while Gaur in Rautahat recorded 50 millimeters. Nijgadh in Bara also reported 44 millimeters of rainfall during the same period.
Meteorologist Binod Pokharel said this is only the beginning phase of the weather system and that rainfall is expected to continue throughout Saturday and into the night.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning for heavy rainfall from Koshi to Lumbini provinces on Saturday and Sunday, urging residents to remain alert. Several roads in affected areas have already been obstructed due to intense rain.
