Heavy rains claim 49 lives, 11 missing across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Continuous heavy rainfall on October 4 and 5 triggered floods and landslides across Nepal, resulting in 49 deaths, 11 missing, and 17 injured, according to authorities.

Ilam was the worst-hit district, where landslides and floods claimed 37 lives. The Armed Police Force headquarters reported that five people remain missing in Ilam following the post-rain landslides.

In Udayapur, floods and landslides caused two deaths and one injury. In Khotang, lightning claimed one life and injured three, while two people were injured in Bhojpur due to lightning.

In Panchthar, six people died in road accidents, and six others are receiving treatment for injuries.

Madhes Province also suffered losses. In Rautahat, lightning killed three people, while one person went missing in Bara after being swept away by a river.

In Bagmati Province, one person was injured in Kathmandu.

In Lalitpur’s Godawari Municipality-14, a wall collapse caused injuries to three people, while Makwanpur saw one injury due to lightning.
