KATHMANDU: With rivers rising and flood and landslide risks increasing across the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also mobilized Gen-Z volunteers for disaster response.
Gen-Z leader Sudan Gurung and volunteers from various groups are already on the ground in affected areas of the Kathmandu Valley, helping with riverbank areas and distributing relief materials including tripals.
The Department of Meteorology has forecasted heavy rainfall over the next three days, raising the risk of further floods and landslides.
Officials at Singha Durbar coordinated preventive measures with Gen-Z representatives to ensure full preparedness. “This government cannot afford any lapse. We are deploying all available resources, including volunteers, to prevent gaps in response,” said an official from Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal’s secretariat.
Sudan Gurung also attended the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority meeting on Saturday afternoon to discuss ongoing relief and preparedness efforts before on the ground.
