LUMBINI: Chief Justice of India Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai on Saturday visited the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha in Lumbini.

This is his first visit to Nepal since assuming the top judicial position. Gavai described his Lumbini trip as a deeply spiritual occasion.

He was welcomed by Lumbini Development Trust Vice-Chair Dr. Lharkyal Lama (Khenpo Chime Chiring), Member-Secretary Sanuraja Shakya, Executive Member Shyam Rokka, Senior Administration Chief Gyanin Rai, and other officials and staff.

During the visit, Gavai observed the historical and religious significance of the Lumbini area.

At the Maya Devi Temple, he paid homage at the Buddha’s birthplace, recited prayers, and lit a ceremonial lamp, wishing for world peace, human welfare, Nepal’s progress, and stronger Nepal–India friendship.

He also interacted with Trust officials, inquiring about the master plan and ongoing development works in Lumbini. Praising Nepal’s efforts to promote Lumbini internationally, Gavai expressed confidence in continued Indian cooperation in the sacred site’s development.

Vice-Chair Lama presented him with a statue of Buddha as a token of respect. On the sidelines, judges and legal scholars from Nepal and India exchanged experiences and discussed challenges and opportunities in the judicial sector.

According to the Lumbini Development Trust, the visit is expected to further enhance Nepal’s tourism, cultural, and religious importance through Lumbini’s global recognition.
