Journalists receive orientation on election code of conduct

SURKHET: An orientation programme on the election code of conduct for the media persons from Karnali Province was held in Surkhet.

Organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) central committee, the orientation programme was conducted on Monday in Birendranagar, Surkhet.

On the occasion, Assistant Chief District Officer of Surkhet, Dil Bahadur Karki, said that the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5 will be held in a free and fair manner if all political parties, officials and journalists work in a disciplined way.

He urged the media fraternity to disseminate news objectively by considering the fact that fake news is widely disseminated mostly in the time of elections.

Likewise, Senior Vice Chairman of FNJ Dipak Acharya said that journalists have received threats and been attacked as the election date is approaching.

Acharya stated that the journalists should disseminate correct news by being more responsible during this time of election and asked the journalists to fully abide by the election code of conduct.

Likewise, Chairman of FNJ Karnali Province Bishnu Sharma urged the media to avoid fake news.

District committee chairs of FNJ Karnali Province and other selected journalists were present in the orientation programme where issues of challenges faced by journalists during the election and the ways to resolve them were discussed.
