KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held discussions today with the officials of Land Issue Resolving Commission to review the progress of the commission’s work.
During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, the commission briefed him on their ongoing efforts in identifying landless Dalits, squatters, and unmanaged settlers, as well as collecting records, verifying data, conducting land surveys, resolving disputes, and preparing for land registration and distribution of ownership certificates. These activities are being carried out in coordination with all three tiers of government.
During the discussion, which also included Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Balaram Adhikari, Commission Chairperson Hari Prasad Rijal explained that individuals who have been living in a location for at least ten years without receiving land from the government will be identified as landless squatters.
Similarly, those living on government, public, or unused land for over ten years will be categorized as unmanaged settlers. Commission officials noted that the recent passage of the bill to amend certain Nepal land-related laws will facilitate smoother implementation of their plans.
