SINDHUPALCHOK: A massive landslide in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality–2 on Wednesday morning has completely blocked the Araniko Highway, a vital route connecting Nepal to China via the Tatopani border point.
According to the District Police Office, Sindhupalchok, the landslide occurred along the Bahrabise–Kodari section of the highway, sweeping away sections of the road.
In addition to the debris from above, erosion by the Bhotekoshi River from below has further damaged the road, causing a total collapse in the affected area.
As a result, cargo containers heading to the capital via the Tatopani checkpoint have been halted at the customs yard. Passenger buses, private vehicles, and even ambulances are stranded, severely affecting travelers and patients alike.
Chief of the Road Division Office, Charikot, Amit Shrestha, said efforts are underway to reopen the blocked road.
Dozers have been mobilized for clearance, and the Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality is deploying additional manpower and equipment to expedite the restoration process, according to Ward Chairperson Pasang Nurpu Sherpa.
