DHADING: Continuous rain on Friday and Saturday has triggered multiple landslides along the Prithvi Highway, severely disrupting vehicle movement.
Authorities had suspended all non-essential traffic from Saturday evening, allowing only vehicles already halted or on urgent duty to proceed.
Currently, traffic on the highway is nearly at a standstill. This morning, around 8:30 AM, a landslide blocked the road at Jyamireghat, Benighat-Rorang Rural Municipality–10.
Other affected areas include Satkilo in Thakre–7, Ghatbesi in Gajuri–5, Jahrekhet in Gajuri–6, and Jawangkhola in Benighat-Rorang–10.
The District Administration Office urged transport operators and passengers to avoid traveling on the highway due to the landslide risk and strictly follow safety advisories.
Sections of Tribhuvan Rajpath at Nagdhunga–Naubise and the Naubise–Muglin stretch of Prithvi Highway have also been damaged, with gravel washed onto the road by rain making vehicle movement difficult.
Chief District Officer Bijayaraj Subedi said small landslides are blocking the road at multiple points. Even in areas where the road is not yet blocked, falling rocks pose a high risk, making it unsafe for vehicles to pass.
The traffic suspension aims to prevent vehicles from being struck and avoid human casualties. Currently, local residents are traveling only for essential purposes, while long-distance vehicles are not operating.
Despite the rain stopping, authorities said it will take more time to clear the debris and reopen the road safely.
