SANKHUWASABHA: A lightning strike in Sankhuwasabha on Wednesday evening left one woman dead and three others seriously injured.

Nirmala Tamang, 31, of Manedanda in Chainpur Municipality-8, lost her life after being struck by lightning while sitting inside her home, according to Acting Chief of the District Police Office, Abhishek Shrestha. She was rushed to the Primary Health Center in Chainpur for medical attention but died during treatment.

Three others—15-year-old Prateek Tamang, 42-year-old Kalpana Tamang, and 19-year-old Rijan Tamang—sustained serious injuries in the same incident. As the local health center lacked adequate facilities, they were transferred to the District Hospital in Sankhuwasabha for further treatment.

Nirmala’s body is currently being held at the Primary Health Center.

Police said this latest incident brings the number of lightning-related deaths in the district to five in the past year.
