BAITADI: Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Damodar Bhandari said that Nepal has objections regarding the agreement between India and China to establish a trade route at Lipulek.

During a greeting exchange for the Gaura festival and interactions with party cadres in his home district, Baitadi, today, Minister Bhandari expressed his opposition to the agreement between China and India to create a trade route in Nepal’s sovereign territory at Lipulek.

“Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, who is currently on a visit to China, has also discussed this matter during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. There is confidence that China will cooperate on this issue,” he said. After the visit to China, the Prime Minister will also visit India, and this issue will remain a priority in India as well, Bhandari noted.

He also stated that plans are underway to construct a motorable bridge at the Jhulaghat border with India and to advance the Pancheshwar project.

“The Prime Minister has discussed the Integrated Mahakali Treaty and the Pancheshwar project. It is likely that we will implement the treaty and move forward this year. For which India’s consent is also essential,” he added.

Minister Bhandari mentioned that topics such as Dodhara Chandani Dry Port and Mahakali Corridor are also in priority. He also shared that he is committed to the overall development of Baitadi district.
