MUSTANG: More than 13,500 Himalayan goats, popularly known as Chyangra, have been sent to the other districts via Mustang district for this year’s festive season.
The Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Expert Centre Office shared that the Himalayan goats of Mugu, Jumla, Dolpa and other Himalayan districts were sent to the different markets from Mustang district.
Veterinary Doctor Lalmani Aryal of the Centre shared that 6,000 Himalayan goats are from the farms in the district while 775 goats from Jumla, 500 from Mugu and 5,400 goats from Dolpa were sent to the other district through Mustang district.
Additional 1,000 goats are likely to be exported from Mustang.
Last year, 9,000 plus Himalayan goats were sent to the other districts from Mustang.
Dr Aryal shared that almost 20 percent more goats have been sent to the other districts this year compared to the last year.
The demand for mountain goat meat is high in the districts of the Gandaki Province as the meat of the goat from the cold alpine regions is considered to be tasty, healthy and nutritious. The cost of the each mountain goat is up to Rs 35,000 this year, said a trader from Kaski, Purna Bahadur Ranabhat.
