KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has called for the prompt resumption and regularization of all judicial activities, including those of the Supreme Court.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Secretary General Kedar Prasad Koirala stressed that citizens’ right to access justice must not be disrupted under any circumstances.

The NBA underscored the need for judicial reforms to be undertaken through broad-based consultations and a credible mechanism. It reiterated that the 16th All Nepal Lawyers National Conference had clearly articulated its stance on the restructuring of the judiciary.

Strongly condemning any attempts to intimidate or undermine the independence of the judiciary, the NBA urged all concerned to uphold the core values, principles, and standards of the rule of law, even during times of national crisis.

The statement also reminded the State of its foremost duty to uphold and promote the fundamental principles of human rights, including the guarantee of impartial hearings. It also echoed the need for maintaining the morale of the security forces.

The NBA further stated that sustainable peace can only be achieved through dialogue and cooperation, and urged the government to prioritize this approach.

In addition, the NBA requested the government to allocate a plot of land within the Supreme Court premises for the construction of its (NBA) building.
