KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has paid tribute to Bipin Joshi from Kanchanpur who died while in the captivity of the Palestinian group Hamas.

Nepali Congress’ Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka stated in a condolence statement today that Joshi’s untimely demise has shocked all Nepalis. He also paid tribute to Joshi and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Joshi had gone to Israel for studies two years ago under the Far Western University’s the Learn and Earn Programme.

The Government of Nepal, the international community, and human rights organisations had been continuously making diplomatic efforts for Joshi’s safe release since he was taken hostage during the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023. His family had also been actively continuing their efforts.

Joshi’s last rites were performed today with national honours at Bhujela Ghat on the bank of the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur district.
