KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association has expressed strong objection to President Ram Chandra Paudel’s decision to dissolve the Parliament.
Following last night’s recommendation by newly appointed interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki, President Paudel dissolved Parliament.
In a statement, the Bar Association declared the move unconstitutional and also condemned the decision.
The statement described the President’s action as arbitrary and contrary to the rule of law, constitutional supremacy, and the principles of constitutionalism.
The Bar Association further stated that this step seriously undermines the long and hard struggle of the Nepali people for democracy, and appears aimed at stripping away achievements such as democracy, republicanism, inclusivity, and federalism.
