Nepal Dialogue Summit concludes with Kathmandu declaration

KATHMANDU: The ‘Nepal Dialogue Summit, 2025’ organized jointly by various 46 organizations concluded in the federal capital by issuing the Kathmandu declaration on Friday.

The event affirmed that just peace is essential in the country following the September 8-9 Gen Z protest. “Dialogue is a creative medium and process to change difference and dispute to opportunities. The summit can prepare a common ground for cutting through the disputes,” the declaration read.

Compassion, tolerance, patience to hear dissenting voices and differing perspectives, respect to culture can be developed through dialogues, the statement mentioned, adding the event’s request to all sides including the dissent to be ready for truth and public interest.

Dialogue and mediation are instrumental tools to advance talks and create infrastructures of peace. Even the new legal provisions could be devised for proper measure to engage with negotiators, according to the declaration. The summit further appealed to all mechanisms to work for establishment of peace, good governance and fulfillment of citizen’s rights where tolerance and justice can be ensured. The declaration incorporates the resolution to reinforce dialogue process in Nepal.

Resident Representative of UNDP Hanaa Hamdy Singer had inaugurated the programme.

Keynote speaker and diplomat Dr Shambhuram Simkhada viewed constant conversation is essential to sustain democracy.
