KATHMANDU — The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has launched the first phase of its protest, with members submitting formal letters of attention to the Prime Minister, Education Minister, and chief whips of political parties.

The Federation’s president, Laxmi Kishor Subedi, asserts that a new education bill tabled in Parliament fails to honor a prior agreement and threatens to weaken teachers’ rights.

The Federation’s renewed protests follow a month-long strike in May that was suspended after the government reached a nine-point agreement with the union.

However, Subedi claims that the School Education Bill, presented to the House of Representatives on August 22, 2025, did not include key provisions from that consensus, prompting the union to return to the streets.
