Nepali Congress says total social media shutdown not appropriate

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has decided to discuss with the government regarding its decision to deactivate social media platforms.

On Sunday, party leaders expressed dissatisfaction over the decision during a meeting of the Congress Working Committee at the residence of Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha. .

Nepali Congress leaders stated that while regulation of social media may be necessary, completely shutting it down is not an appropriate decision.

Today’s meeting decided to register the party for the by-election of the Provincial Assembly constituency (b) under Manang House of Representatives constituency (1).

Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC mentioned that the deactivation of social media has caused public dissatisfaction and emphasized that the matter will be discussed with the government.

He stated that Nepali Congress should intervene in cases of government wrongdoing.

He further added that presenting a bill related to the Constitutional Council in parliament for approval without prior discussion is not appropriate.
