KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to safeguard the lives of Dr Nikolas Bhusal and Harish Bista, who have been staging a hunger strike for the past 10 days in Kathmandu.

Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the NHRC has asked the government for prompt action to this end, stating the health condition of Dr Bhusal and Bista was deteriorating.

In the press statement, NHRC Assistant Spokesperson Shyam Babu Kafle has appealed to the government to safeguard the lives of Dr Bhusal and Bista, who have put forth their demands for probing the individuals on corruption charges and to initiate actions against them.

“The NHRC draws the attention of the government to safeguard their lives and address the demands raised by the agitating individuals through dialogue while taking initiatives for their effective health care service,” according to the NHRC.

It said that the NHRC was also carrying out a regular monitoring of this issue, and found that the health condition of Dr Bhusal and Bista was critical during the latest monitoring.
